Wendy Alexander has done a 10/10 nulab u-turn by coming out in support for a referendum on Scottish independence.

Wendy said:

“I have never feared an independence referendum because I’m in the mainstream of Scottish public opinion in wanting Scotland to stand tall but not to walk out of the UK.”

According to Ms Alexander the SNP are “running scared” because their proposed date for a referendum is too far away in 2010!

How stupid does she think the people of Scotland are? As far as I know she has been almost fanatic in her opposition to a referendum. If it does go ahead it’s a big gamble for Labour - they have everything to lose.

So, what have Labour got up their sleeve? Global uncertainty and scare tactics will count for something but are nothing in the face of an idea whose time has come.
