Quite a while since I last could be arsed to post anything here. Looks like not much has’s been happening but I’ve been fairly busy for the cause. I’ve done some work on the Campaign for an English Parliament’s website which as the site has currently vanished from the net I’ll assume is on it’s way. Designed a couple of leaflets, a poster and a couple of T-shirts for the CEP.

Today I was up in Manchester with fellow CEP members handing out leaflets to all an sundry outside the Labour party conference. Went pretty well and I say that as someone who loathes trying to sell stuff – and who detests Labour.

Any British political party is going to be hard work from an English parliament perspective. So many vested interests in the unjust status quo. Labour talk a good game on equality but equal funding or democracy for the people of England just isn’t on their agenda.

Getting people to accept a leaflet is an art form – most delegates just don’t want to know. But we got rid of a lot of leaflets over two hours, to mixed reactions. Plenty of blank looks a few “oh no’s”, one “is it something to do with the EDL”, a fair few “regionalists” and one “you’ve already got an English Parliament”.

There were eight or nine positive reactions and about three genuine interests. And that was just me. So the four of did some good I reckon.

The Tory party conference in Birmingham coming up, anyone wishing to help out should contact the CEP.

Of course the main thing the CEP should be doing is talking with people outside politics. Getting the message to the majority of English folk who are currently kept in the dark about England’s raw deal by the British press and political establishment. That’s the big challenge for the CEP and the English movement – the current crop of politicians won’t listen until they’re made to listen.

So if you live in England and care about the funding, services and representation you don’t get from the UK parliament, please do something about it. This page has a few ideas how you can help. Every effort counts, the wyrd ignores no detail.

Happy St George’s day & waes hael to my occasional reader

Power 2010 have released an ICM survey which shows that 68% agree with the statement: “England should have its own parliament with similar powers to those of the Scottish Parliament”.

They also briefly projected the Cross of St George onto Westminster with the words “HOME RULE” underneath. I say briefly because apparently the law popped up and threatened them with arrest, citing citing anti-terrorism law, section 44. I hope Gordon Brown got to see it before they were stopped.

Over at the Guardian, Dr Rupa Huq who describes herself as “a sociologist, Labourite and accidental blogger” has laid into calls for an English Parliament in her article “The chimera of an English parliament“.

Go and read it and have a laugh. She has managed to include virtually every establishment line on why we English don’t need an English Parliament. Including this gem:

There is no public appetite, clamour or need for an English parliament, however. If there was, it would have been addressed in this election campaign’s manifestos and the leaders’ debate. But no serious political party wants to touch this dud of an issue.

Nice timing for starters. The latest survey shows that 70% of English people want an English Parliament. But the bit about the establishments campaign manifesto’s is priceless. The Brishit establishment parties can’t even bring themselves to say England let alone to actually do something for England. Like Dr Huq their heads are firmly ensconced in the ground. Demand for an English Parliament is a grass roots demand – the kind that can be denied for so long, but one day it will sweep all before it.

I got a comment in as quick as I could – no time for nice writing but hopefully it did the trick.

The survey proves that we are getting somewhere. Every word and every conversation about the English cause counts. We will have our parliament back.

So I’m going to start posting some of the longer comments I make on other blogs and articles here. Feel free to pitch in if you agree with what I’m saying.

So far today I’ve left a couple of comments and barracked Nickie Mc Campbell on Twitter.

Managed to get a comment about England onto the Daily Mail website – nothing short of a miracle.

07/04/2010 10:30

Who will stand for England?
England. No recognition. No representation. Regionalised without consent. Underfunded. Rail-roaded into the EU against our will. None of the party leaders can even bring themselves to say the E word.

Wake up you English. Your homeland is being abolished before your very eyes.

http://tinyurl.com/ykahoql

07/04/2010 10:27:27

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/geraldwarner/100032937/only-a-revolt-by-the-great-ignored-can-transform-this-charade-into-an-election/

“Only a revolt by the Great Ignored can transform this charade into an election ”

Absolutely correct. The great ignored are the people of England who have not spoken yet.

England. No recognition. No representation. Regionalised without consent. Underfunded. Rail-roaded into the EU against our will. None of the party leaders can even bring themselves to say the E word.

Wake up you English. Your homeland is being abolished before your very eyes.

Home rule for England.

07/04/2010 07:57:33

http://cadisheadinspace.blogspot.com/2010/04/drawing-battle-grounds.html

I don’t understand your misgivings about Englishness. The English are the people of England. Why shouldn’t they have the same levels of recognition, representation and funding as the Scots or the Welsh?

The problem with the EU is that the people of England (and the “UK”) have not consented to being members of a federal European Union. And the EU doesn’t require that consent – it is a deeply undemocratic institution – bordering on a tyranny as far as I’m concerned.

As for “80% of our international trade” coming from the EU, it sounds like a figure plucked out of the air to me. But more importantly UK or better still English withdrawal from the EU doesn’t mean that other EU nations will stop trading with us.

The Germans will still want to sell us cars, the French cheese etc. Trade will continue, but we’ll be able to trade with the rest of the world on our own terms – not there’s.

Ultimately it’s a freedom issue.

Personally I’d much rather live in a small, peaceful, independent England than in a bogus EU region enforced upon me against my will.

Cheerio

Last week the Conservatives ran an online “consultation” about Education policy. Their draft Education manifesto, mentions England once and “Britain” four times although because Education is a devolved issue the document is 100% about England and not about “Britain” at all.

Anyway I managed to get in fairly with the following question bout tuition fees.

“Do the conservatives think it’s fair that English students have to pay tuition fees but that Scottish students have their fees paid for by the state? Do the Conservatives have any plans to address this blatant injustice?”

The question got 327 votes and was the third most popular question – so for once the Tories were obliged to answer a question about England.

Yesterday David “lots of Scottish blood” Cameron gave his answer here. Move the slider to about 17 minutes in if you want to to go straight to the answer.

He starts off:

We don’t have plans to address this – this is a consequence of devolution.

In a devolved system where you have a Scottish Parliament – they’ve made the decision to keep higher education effectively free – they can’t spend money on other things

Where we’ve made the decision in England to keep them…blah blah blah

You see? On the rare occasion the can be persuaded to mention England they spew the same old bullshit.

Consequence of devolution? Just fuck off – this is an entirely unacceptable consequence of devolution – if as we keep being told this is a United Kingdom let’s have some equality – why should English students be leaving university £10000 more in debt than their Scottish counterparts? If you can’t see how unfair that is Dave you’re not fit to run a parish council let alone the government.

“they’ve made the decision to keep higher education effectively free – they can’t spend money on other things” Dave – the Scots get £1500 more per person per year from central government via the Barnett Formula – that’s how they can afford it – not because they’re cutting back elsewhere.

“Where we’ve made the decision in England to keep them…” No Dave this was decided by the UK parliament made up of UK MPs sworn to put the UK first including Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish MPs.

If the presentation had a decent pause button I’d write it all out but it doesn’t so please take a listen to the whole thing.

If you have a Conservative MP you might consider firing off a letter showing your extreme displeasure.

Number of programs made about English history in the last 12 months or 12 years for that matter? Anyone likely to visit this page will already know the answer.

It seems that as far as the BBC are concerned a country with no present has no history.

I didn’t listen to PMQ’s today as it has a tendency to ruin my whole day. But I read about it on the Calling England blog.

Graham Brady the Conservative MP for Altrincham and Sale asked the following question:

Why should my constituents pay more tax so that the Prime Minister’s can have their council tax frozen?

Brown’s reply:

The purpose of devolution, whether to Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or London, is to allow those people in those areas who are represented to make the decisions that affect their lives. If they make these decisions by doing one thing, it is at the cost of their ability to do other things.

And that was that and onto the next question. No shouts of “what about England?” or “what about the Barnett Formula?” It was a good question to ask but a disgraceful non answer and the house has once again shown it’s contempt for the people of England by not pulling Brown up on it.

There’s a recording of PMQ’s on the BBC news website (for a while anyway) and the question is asked at 16 mins 50 seconds in.

If you care about England it’ll have your blood boiling.

There’s a transcript on Hansard too.
