Censored by the BBC

The British Brainwashing Corps at it again. They were running a “Have your say” forum today asking the question “Have the Ashes given you a feel good factor?

I submitted the following comment when there were only two or three posts before it but it got rejected for “breaking the house rules”. Well it’s not racist, homophobic, it doesn’t impersonate anyone or break any of the other house rules. The comment is on topic although admittedly it does try to put England’s sporting victory into the wider context of the state of England in general. BBC You and Yours Devolution – have your say

There’s a turn up then!

The BBC Radio 4 programme “You and Yours” are dedicating tomorrow’s show to devolution!

Should Scotland be given more financial autonomy?

For the last 30 years the Barnett formula has been used to allocate British taxpayers’ cash between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Many see it as unfair because of the high levels of funding that go to Scotland and Northern Ireland in particular. As it comes under review should places like Scotland be given more fiscal autonomy? Some there would even like to see it be given total independence. Would the break up fo the union be a positive move or is it better for the Scots to stay within Britain? Let us know.

Please take the time to get intouch with them using this form or by calling them on 0800 044 044 this afternoon or tomorrow morning before 10 am.

English history! That’s a turn up

It’s a curious thing, isn’t it, that 17th century English history and I mean English – not British, seems to have pretty well disappeared as well and many of the aguments that people have now about liberty, about parliament, about freedom of religion and all the rest of it, absolutely fundamental to that period and yet certainly in schools it’s just not taught.

This is James Naughtie on this mornings R4 Today programme talking about John Milton’s 400th birthday he spots a symptom of the rot but not the rot itself. A sample in mp3 format.
