Power 2010 have released an ICM survey which shows that 68% agree with the statement: “England should have its own parliament with similar powers to those of the Scottish Parliament”.

Last night Old Holborn invited submissions from the small parties standing today in the Euro elections. A bit late in the day for an official response so I had a stab at it. It’s rough and ready and I confess to having had a few jars before writing it. I missed out some major points but I stand by it. If you’re offended by harsh anglo-saxon language you know what to do.

I remember the first time I described myself as such to another person – it was at the Freedom of Speech rally in London a few years ago. The couple I was speaking to looked nervously at each other and from then on pretty much blanked me. I tried to explain it wasn’t like British Nationalism but assumptions had already been leapt to and that’s the way it was.
In the name of art the Carlisle Art HUB has put a “Welcome to Scotland” sign outside the English city of Carlisle.
My initial response was the urge to unleash a string of highly coloured invective involving some very naughty words. But my higher self insists on an appraisal of the artistic merit of this installation.

It’s great to read something positive about Englishness coming from Mr Goodhart. Although I disagree with a lot that he’s saying.
